Profile:
Dr. Liu Haifang got her Ph.D. in African History from Peking University. She is currently Associate Professor at the School of International Studies, Director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies, and Director of the Center for African Studies at Peking University. She previously worked at the Institute of West Asian and African Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Dr. Liu has also held visiting scholar positions at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, the University of Oslo, the Institute of African Studies at Carleton University in Canada, and the Center for China Studies in South Africa.
Research Areas:
Dr. Liu's research focuses on African politics and international relations, international development cooperation, China-Africa economic and cultural cooperation (especially in agriculture), race issues in international relations, global migration, and sustainable development in Africa. She has conducted long-term studies on the TAZARA Railway, Angola, and South Africa. Her current research projects include China-Africa sustainable development cooperation, youth development in Africa, and African perceptions of China. She has led or participated in nearly 20 ministerial-level research projects and has published dozens of academic papers and research reports in both Chinese and English.
Individually teaches three courses, namely, African Politics & International Relations (for undergraduates), Comprehensive African Studies (in Chinese for MA students) and Comprehensive African Studies (in English for International MA programs). Also jointly teaches Theories and Methodologies in Afro-Asian Studies for MA students,International Politics &Area Studies for Ph. D students.
