From January 14 to 21, 2025, Dean Tang Shiqi led a delegation to Japan, visiting Seikei University, Waseda University, and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. The delegation also participated in the Seikei University–Peking University Bilateral Academic Symposium. Vice Dean Dong Zhaohua, Assistant Professors Xu Qinyi and Lu Xiao accompanied the visit. Professor Wang Zhengyi, Chair of the Department of International Political Economy, and Professor Luo Yanhua from the Institute of International Relations, who are currently conducting academic exchanges at Seikei University, also participated in the symposium and delivered featured lectures.
During the visit to Seikei University, the delegation was welcomed by Professor Takashi Asaba, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Professor Kim Kwangwook from the same faculty. Professor Asaba expressed his warm welcome to the delegation and noted that Peking University has been an important partner of Seikei University. Since the 1990s, the two institutions have achieved significant outcomes in academic exchanges. He believed that the delegation’s visit would bring renewed momentum to bilateral collaboration. Dean Tang expressed sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality and highly praised the fruitful cooperation between the two universities. He stated that the partnership not only advances academic exchanges but also offers valuable learning and communication opportunities for both faculty and students. He hoped the friendship would continue and that collaboration would deepen, contributing jointly to the development of cultural exchanges between China and Japan.
Following the visit, the delegation attended the Seikei University–Peking University Bilateral Academic Symposium, themed “Politics, History, and Thought in Asia.” Scholars from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges. At the symposium, Professor Wang Zhengyi gave a keynote lecture titled “China–U.S. Relations within the World System,” and Professor Luo Yanhua delivered a talk on “Global Public Health Security and Cooperation Among Heterogeneous Major Powers,” sharing their latest research insights and findings with attendees.
On January 15, the delegation visited the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, where they were received by Executive Director Ichiro Ando, Special Director of the Japan–China Friendship Fund Yu Zhan, Program Director Keisuke Ogata, and Research Fellow Liu Tongle. During the meeting, Ichiro Ando emphasized the strong and enduring collaboration between the Foundation and the School of International Studies at Peking University through various joint projects, and spoke highly of their outcomes. Dean Tang expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the Foundation’s longstanding efforts in promoting academic exchanges and student development between China and Japan. He emphasized the importance of educational and cultural exchanges in fostering the healthy development of bilateral relations and maintaining regional peace and stability. He also expressed the hope for further collaboration in the humanities and encouraged Peking University students to engage in deeper studies of Japan and the East Asian region, contributing to the cultivation of globally minded talents with cross-cultural communication skills.
On January 20, the delegation visited Waseda University and held meetings with Kate Elwood, Director of the International Office; Jiang Zhengyin, Deputy Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies; Tetsuto Motoyama, Deputy Director of the International Office; Kazumi Ouchi, Head of International Affairs; and Yang Zhen, Director of the International Affairs Promotion Division. The two sides reviewed the achievements of academic exchanges and cooperation between the School of International Studies at Peking University and Waseda University. Both parties expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation through joint research projects, academic exchanges, and collaborative efforts in China–Japan bilateral relations.
