Teaching & Research

Teaching

The most important task of SIS is to enable our students to be high quality talents at various levels. In its efforts to improve the quality of teaching, the School has been taking various measures to adjust, enrich and amend the curriculum and teaching. The measures adopted include:

Enhances management, assessment and supervision of teaching at various levels. Recruits distinguished experts and professors.

Introduces flexibility in length of study: M.A. students and Ph.D. students now study 2 and 4 years respectively; they may take less or more time to accomplish their education according to their own individual situations.
Reduces the number of credits required and increases the number of selective courses to provide students with more choices in taking courses and more leeway for independent study.

Enhances foreign language training.
Sets up selective courses offered by "the famous" and "the ambassadors" to enrich the curriculum.

Promotes overseas study and international exchanges by setting up various programs with foreign universities.

Research

SIS has taken full advantage of the comprehensiveness of its programs and made many efforts to promote research in political science theories, world socialism, theories of international relations, relations between major powers, Chinese politics and foreign policy, and Asian and African studies. From 2001 to 2005, SIS has been awarded 27 various research projects by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education and other ministries, Peking University and international institutions.
